The Sadya at Mother’s Veg Plaza proved heavy on our tummies and we had a quiet nap at Mitra Hermitage later that afternoon. Kovalam which is a well-known beach destination was at close proximity from where we stayed in Thiruvallam, Trivandrum. The plan was made for the evening and we hired an auto rickshaw to reach Kovalam. The ride from Thiruvallam to Kovalam via the NH 47 Bypass Road is splendid. The clean roads lined with coconut groves alongside make the ride worth a mention.
Kovalam has three beaches – Lighthouse Beach, Eve’s Beach [Hawaa Beach] and Samudra Beach which are separated by rocky lands in between. The only beaches I have been to are those in Tamil Nadu and little did I know that what I would be experiencing in Kovalam would be entirely different. I was very curious because the little shops along the roads selling beach outfits are not something you get to see in Marina, Chennai.
The narrow market road which is filled with tourists comes to an end where The Arabian Sea emerges and the coconut grooves alongside forms a perfect backdrop for the sea. With the sun just beginning to set, the tea and coffee stalls were beginning to making good business. Further ahead, there were rooftops and shacks where one can stop by for beer, food and fun. Over a cup of coffee, I watched some young guys taking a dip in the sea, a family building mud castle, foreign folks relaxing with a glass of beer – And I was set for a lazy stroll along the Hawaa Beach. Whilst capturing the beauty of Kovalam, I went for a long walk on the beach with Shyam. We walked up to the Light House Beach after which we sat down doing nothing. It was a lazy evening filled with sweet nothings and fun.

Kovalam is a beach town by the Arabian Sea near Trivandrum, Kerala. Do not get confused with Covelong / Kovalam in Tamilnadu. The beach town with its many resorts providing Ayurveda Services has a peaceful vibe to it. There are a lot of Luxury and Budget Friendly Hotels and Beach Resorts near the Kovalam Beach.
